Important Note on Natural Stones
The Nature of Natural Stones
AWNL sources selected natural stones and crystals worldwide. We do not dye, paint or otherwise treat them, except for polishing or a matte finish. Formed over vast geological timescales, each stone has its own natural fractures, clouding, surface cavities and colour variations. These are natural characteristics rather than defects.
Characteristics & Variations
Associated Colours & Inclusions
Cracks, small cavities and clouding may develop as a crystal grows under changing conditions. Other minerals can introduce additional colours, known as associated colours. Stones may also contain bubbles, mineral crystals or organic material, referred to as inclusions.

(Example: Dumortierite with colour variations, natural fractures and clouding. Inclusions and associated colours may leave small surface cavities and areas of different colour after cutting.)
Natural Fractures
Natural fractures form through movements in the earth's crust or other forces during a stone's formation. Their shape, size and depth vary, creating distinctive patterns. Some are visible to the eye; others require magnification.
Natural Clouding
Air or other inclusions introduced during formation can create a cloudy appearance. Its shape, extent and density vary from stone to stone, contributing to each crystal's character.

(Example: Rose Quartz with colour variations, natural fractures and clouding.)
Natural Surface Cavities
Other minerals may surround or erode a stone during formation, leaving natural surface cavities. Their shapes, sizes and colours vary, making each stone individual.

(Example: Phantom Amethyst with natural fractures, clouding, colour variations and inclusions. This stone can contain numerous inclusions and fractures, with both lighter and darker areas.)
Natural Colour Variations
Trace elements contribute to a stone's colour. Their uneven concentration and distribution create natural variations, with the degree of difference depending on the elements present.
(Example: Sodalite showing colour variations, fractures, clouding and inclusions.)
AWNL Natural Stones
Natural fractures, clouding, cavities and colour variations give each stone its individual character and natural beauty.
At AWNL, we value the individuality of natural stones rather than uniform perfection.
By choosing our jewellery, you acknowledge natural differences in pattern, weight and colour, including the possible presence of organic fragments and trace elements that give each crystal slightly different colours and patterns.
We work to represent our products faithfully, using photographs of actual pieces. Lighting, screen displays and the unique pattern and colour of each stone mean the item you receive will differ from website photographs.
