Concept

SMOKED GLASS

TRACE & NARRATIVE / 痕跡與敘事

Quartz crystal exposed to natural radiation over extended geological periods. The interaction with trace aluminium within the crystal lattice alters its structure, resulting in a brown to black tint. The transparency remains intact despite the darkening of the medium. In the Scottish Highlands, specifically the Cairngorm mountains, this mineral has been mined for centuries and incorporated into traditional metalwork. The process that darkens the stone is entirely natural, occurring deep underground over millions of years. Primarily sourced from Brazil and Madagascar. A mineral that visually captures the effect of radiation over time. It is a direct record of subterranean exposure, brought to the surface.

Grounding — Clarification — Execution

Anchors scattered thoughts. Shifts focus from theoretical planning to physical implementation.

SELECTOR'S NOTE / 選品手記

Smoky quartz lowers the overall brightness without blocking light. In design, it serves as a dark focal point when a solid black stone would feel too heavy. It suits individuals who are currently turning plans into actions, providing a sense of visual grounding.
