A dense, opaque form of microcrystalline quartz coloured by iron oxide. Its matte red recalls rust and fired clay.
Jasper was worked into arrowheads and amulets as early as the Neolithic period. Its dense structure also made it suitable for carved seals and small objects.
This Brazilian stone has a deep, even red, formed within iron-rich deposits over geological time.
