Green Rutilated Quartz

Transparent quartz containing green fibrous inclusions, most commonly actinolite or occasionally tourmaline. The clear silica matrix functions as a window into the growth pattern of the secondary mineral. Actinolite is an amphibole silicate. As the host quartz slowly crystallized under intense hydrothermal pressure, it captured these green, needle-like structures intact. The parallel or radiating alignment of the fibers provides a structural greenness rather than a solid block of pigment. Chiefly sourced from Brazil. The stone operates as a preservation chamber. It holds the exact arrangement of a different mineral, permanently fixed at the moment the ambient temperature dropped.

Compared to gold rutilated quartz, the internal lines of green rutilated quartz have lower contrast, making it visually milder. It adds linear detail to a design without disrupting the overall colour balance.
