Gold Rutilated Quartz

Clear quartz enclosing needle-like or plate-like crystals of rutile, a titanium dioxide mineral. The golden colour of the rutile is an inherent structural characteristic of the titanium lattice. During formation, the high-temperature silica fluid cooled, causing the rutile to crystallize first. The quartz then solidified around it, trapping the metal-like threads in a transparent suspension. The specific density and alignment of these threads dictate how light behaves inside the stone. Found predominantly in Brazil. A physical convergence of two distinct minerals.
